THE «SOURCE OF TEACHING»: THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BOOKLORE FOR THE FORMATION OF HUMAN CIVILIZATION

Abstract: The article is devoted to the importance of the book doctrine in formation of a human civilization. Special attention is paid to educational activity of Cyril and Methodius who initially were seeking to educate Slavs and to grant them the right to obtain their history in a circle of the «great» nations. The statement of equality in familiarizing with book wisdom and its enhancement became for the millennia an essence of the traditions put by educators of the Slavic people and their pupils. With adoption of Christianity by Kievan Rus’ the booklore became one of the major national objectives that led, on the one hand, to familiarization of all variety of antique and medieval works, and on the other hand — to mass literacy, a rare phenomenon for those times. People of book wisdom obtained new perspective on the universe and created cultural fund reflected also in Russian classical literature. «Spiritual seeds» as the main thing in educational activities formed the mentality of Russian people and their attitude to the education and booklore which accumulated the values of the cultural and historical area of the Mediterranean East.
