Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the final poem of Nikolai Otsup «Diary in verse» (1950), which he had been working on for more than fifteen years. N. Otsup is the representative of the first wave of the Russian emigration. The author frankly showed his own way of life. The theme of the path is consciously approximated to religious motives and the motives of love. The work is dedicated to the wife of the poet Diana Karen, who turned him to God. The wife acts in the role of Beatrice, leading the poet through the obstacles. Having repented of sins, the lyrical hero comes to enlightenment and inner harmony. N. Otsup built a movement of his hero, showing his philosophy of love. The way of Dante is a reflection of his own difficult and confusing way around the hell of life in Russia and emigration. The analysis of the poem shows the hero's journey from despair to divine love. True love according to the poet is love-pity, compassion and forgiveness. The results of the research can be used in the study of the genre of a poetic diary/confession, the study of the life of emigrants in the twentieth century, and in teaching Literature in higher education institutions.
