Abstract: The article discusses the note written by A. I. Gotovtseva in the album of M. A. Maksimovich. It is shown that it might enrich the existing ideas in modern criticism about the literary connections of the Kostroma poetess. The author poses a hypothesis that, with the assistance of Yu. N. Bartenev, Gotovtseva could have contacted the authors of the notes in 1825, forming the closest context in Maksimovich’s album in relation to Thomas Moore’s elegy translated by I. I. Kozlov (“The Irish Song (from Moore)”), published in the almanac “Northern Flowers for 1825”. Apart from Maksimovich, those could have been A. P. Elagina, A. I. Shalikova, S. E. Raich and P. A. Vyazemsky. It is argued that the choice of the aforementioned poem for Maksimovich’s album testifies not only to Gotovtseva’s literary taste, but also to her involvement in the process of exploration of the poetic heritage of T. Moore, characteristic of Russian literature of the 1820s and 1830s. It is proven that the philosophical comparison of the human experiences and the life of a tree with a “cut branch”, artistically embodied in the poem of the Irish poet (in Kozlov’s translation), recorded by Gotovtseva in Maksimovich’s album, is in many ways akin to the figurative parallel present in her early elegy “Autumn” (1825). It is highlighted that the poem chosen by Gotovtseva, in terms of its use of phytosymbolism, enters into a dialogic relationship with the notes and drawings of other participants in the album. The study also analyzes some literary events and facts that reminded Maximovich of Gotovtseva in the period 1830–1872. It is reported that Maximovich's attention to her personality and creative activity at that time was indirectly supported by Vyazemsky, who published an excerpt from a letter addressed to the poetess in the almanac “Dennitsa for 1830”. This text became a manifesto for Maximovich, which defined the criteria of high artistry not only for women’s poetry, but also for the Russian poetry as a whole.
