Abstract: The article describes the lesson of Russian as a Foreign Language for elementary students. The topic of the lesson is «City and Transport». The article describes the experience of the authors in teaching the subject «Russian Vocabulary to Foreign Students» in the Ural State Pedagogical University. The content and the goals of the lesson «City and Transport», as well as the whole course of «Russian Vocabulary» are communicative. The lesson includes survival vocabulary and the most wide-spread expressions for the topic «City and Transport». Special attention is paid to the verbs ИДТИ - ХОДИТЬ (similar, but not identical to English is going - goes ), ЕХАТЬ - ЕЗДИТЬ ( is driving - drives ), and ordinal numerals. The lesson activates four kinds of language activities to develop monologue and dialogue skills of students. The subject does not aim at training for certificate exams in Russian; it is taught according to the requirements to the knowledge of Russian vocabulary for this level found in Russian Vocabulary for Foreign Students.
