Abstract: The article looks at the issues of compiling dictionaries of urban onomastics and their application in teaching Russian to various categories of foreign language speaking students and forming their linguocultural knowledge. The relevance of the research stems from the high linguocultural potential of onyms and the need to improve lexicographic support for the process of adaptation of foreign students in the country and region of their study. The aim of the study presented in this article is to develop models of representation of national and regional cultural semantics of onyms in educational dictionaries, and to work out the methods of using these dictionaries in teaching foreign language speaking students. The onomastic material requiring linguocultural dictionary commentary (300 onyms) was selected from textbooks of Russian as a foreign language and Pskov regional studies sources. The historico-etymological, as well as linguoculturological analysis made it possible to identify the cultural background of the selected urban onyms, which is described using the method of parametric lexicographic modeling in the complex of educational onomastic dictionaries of the Experimental Laboratory of Educational Lexicography of Pskov State University (5 published dictionaries and 2 dictionary projects under development). Taking into account the level of proficiency in the Russian language, the stage of study and the communicative needs of the students, parametric models of dictionary entries and principles for selecting culturally significant material for them were developed during the research. Special attention was paid to textual linguoculturological commentary. The system of work of foreign language speaking students with onomastic vocabulary materials at the stage of pre-university training, while completing university programs of various fields, at postgraduate courses and advanced training courses is supplemented with methodological support materials. This complex approach to compiling dictionaries of urban onomastics and their use in teaching foreign language speaking students distinguishes the scientific and practical results of the presented research from the developments of other authors. The suggested model of developing and using materials of the onomastic vocabulary complex can be implemented by lexicographers and teachers of Russian as a foreign language based on materials from other regions. All this determines the practical significance of the research presented in this article.
